DDiversity Event

I attended the "Road to Activism/ Traveling Mercies" event. Aldo Magazzeni travels to Afghanistan, Kenya, Haiti, and Mexico building wells and showing people that you can make a difference through community/world service projects. Aldo told a story of when he went to a remote mountain town in Afghanistan, the people there tried to work the system and wanted money for Aldo to recruit them to help build a well system, in their town. Aldo said that many little towns new Traveling Mercies needed volunteers to build the wells, so the towns people ask for money to build the wells. Aldo was shocked because he was giving is money and time to bring these people clean drinking water. Although, when Aldo said he was leaving, the town's people changed their mind. I think what Aldo is very admirable to go into countries that others would not dare to go into and volunteer his time and money to give back to less fortunate people.

Assignment #3

After one week of tweeting (http://twitter.com/cdalbers), I realized how twitter is mobile and reliable. Twitter is easy to use and lets your friends find out about activities are going on in your life. I always thought twitter was just about telling people what you are eating for lunch, but I never new it could be used for news and media uses. I believe twitter became so popular because people could get it for their mobile deivces.

I read the article on six degrees of seperation. The weird thing is my room mates friends girlfriend, knows a girl from my class. Six degrees of seperation is when you know a friend, and that friend knows a friend, and so on until one of the friends is someone you know. A U.S. psychologist name Stanley Milgram conducted a study and found that the average number of steps from you to your distant friend is 5.5 to 6. (http://www.sysomos.com/insidetwitter/sixdegrees/)

One use I think for using twitter in the future is keeping up with my fellow hixsons! Even though I think I will rarely use twitter in the future, it will be nice to keep up with the wonderful people I have met from the Hixson program. =p

Teh Blogging Assignment II

Oh hello there, I did not see you. For this blog post, I will explain doing my best at an athletic event.  I am from a small school, which gives me the opportunity to participate in many athletics. I was never the best athlete, but I never gave up in any sport. I always tried my best.
My senior year, I decided to go out for cross country. Audubon's cross country team was never good, along with all our other sports. (lol) Our cross country team went from having 5 runners to upgrading to 13 people. When our first meet came, we didn't do the best, but by the end of the year we had something going. During the Western Iowa Conference meet, we finally overcame the losing streak and outran 8 other teams to win the WIC title. This was the first time our cross country team had won WIC in the past 40 years.
You will never know your good at something unless you try it. Everyone has some hidden talent that the will discover. Discovering new talents is always a great feeling. If you read all of this, post a response saying "oh ya im awesome." Also, post a hidden talent you found. Were you good at it?
